Synopsis
Dynamic (Justice Tarot) – Despite his small stature, Anatole, a young man motivated by revenge, ruthlessly slashes a boulder with a sword. He gestures to the crowd while raising concerns about injustice and unfairness in the world.
Emotional (The Magician Tarot) – Nova, a witch, is preparing a potion. She immediately retreats after knocking the candle into the goblet out of fear that the potion may explode. But nothing happens, so she approaches the goblet, and...BOOM!
Lipsync (The Fool Tarot/Joker Card)– "Madness is like gravity, all it takes is a little push!" Joker (Heath Ledger), The Dark Knight (Nolan, 2008).
A fun twist from The Fool tarot to a Joker card, which ties into the unexpected and crazy nature of the Joker.
Through A Tarot Card Collection, I gained a deeper comprehension of the 2D animation production pipeline. An 8-second shot used to take me 14 weeks to animate, but now I can create a quick animation in two weeks! My workflow has become much more efficient.
I learnt how to make sure every frame drawing is consistent with the others. For example, using our character construction sheets and aligning them on top of our frames. Or making a 3D model for reference, like in my lip sync for the jester's hat.
My ability to design characters has also increased; I can now build a variety of figures with different body proportions and intriguing silhouettes.
Overall, my goal for this project was to create three stylistically distinct animated shots that would demonstrate my ability to explore and experiment with new aesthetics in accordance with the brief. It also demonstrates my flexibility and adaptability.
