Synopsis

Sienna greets Eve outside of her house before heading to the station to their university. They converse about the good memories and want to stay in one good moment, ignoring everything. Sienna later realises she was instead with her friend, Belle, and that the conversation with Eve took place in the past.

The flashbacks start to get longer and darker. Sienna starts making mistakes in the present. Belle, Sienna's friend, picks up on Sienna’s progressing agitation.

Sienna tries to pull herself together. She remembers finding herself consoling Eve in her stages of grief. In parallel, Belle tries to console Sienna, but Sienna insistently denies  Belle's comfort, becoming overwhelmed recalling both the past and the present.

When Eve/Sienna dismissively runs away from the fight, Sienna/Belle catches her wrist at the last minute, but Sienna misses Eve’s hand. However, Belle catches Sienna, and Sienna finds closure and learns to move on. Though she begins to go on with her own life, she will never forget her closest friend, Eve, who passed away.

In One Day After Another, I concentrated on transitions when moving from the past to the present as a camera operator and shot list supervisor. For example, in the first scene, Sienna talks to Eve. We film an over-the-shoulder shot, where we see Sienna talking to Eve. However, the camera pans behind the Sienna, blocking Eve, and then reveals a different character, Belle. In order to emphasise the past versus the present, we also employed opposing color-grading themes.

Our group utilised the LED screen in a metaphorical sense rather than making the subject blend within the LED screen. For example, Sienna sits in front of the LED screen, watching the montage like she’s watching a large T.V. We use a bright backlight to enhance her silhouette. It helped us make a spotlight, directing the viewer’s eye to the centre.

For the last scene, we needed to make Sienna & Belle in line with Eve, who is on the LED screen. To support this idea, we used platforms that helped keep the character aligned and in eye contact. I particularly love how this shot came out, since we were having trouble initially during our rehearsal. Fortunately, it turned out well in the end.
